Swap clothes Newcastle: Get new stuff without buying

Hundreds of clothes were swapped at today’s event.

More and more clutter in the home, but it is difficult to throw away, because “loathe to give up” “good pity”. Keep buying new things, and you can’t stop because “just in case” or “you’ll need it someday”. I want to tidy my house, but I refuse to do it because it is “troublesome” and “time-consuming”. This is the daily voice of many families.

A clothes swap event took place on Summerhill Trust, Newcastle on February 9. People can bring the clothes they want to exchange from homes and swap them with others so that all the clothes can be reused and recycled. Thus reducing the consumption of oil and saving farmland.

“My sister loves to wear all kinds of clothes, so we have a lot of clothes to get rid of at home. But we thought it might be a good idea to swap these clothes with like-minded people before donating them to charity, so that both parties can own a new piece of clothing.” Victoria Enright, one of the organizers said. She is willing to organize such an event, because they may also get some favorite clothes before donating them.

As the organizers put it in their announcement: “This event is donation based. Money raised will be used to cover the cost of the room and the remaining will be donated to planting some beautiful trees, giving back to nature who gives so freely. All excess clothes will be donated to charities.”

Halcyon Hayward, a participator who wants to find some jumpers and trousers said: “It’s really nice way to get some new things without actually buying new stuff.”

Catherine Aldridge, lives near the Summerhill Trust: “I had a big clear out at home, and came with four bags. It’s really nice to be able to clear out that clear out space. The whole idea of it and the simplicity of it, and and it’s on my doorstep. Also, it’s a bit nicer than going to a charity shop to go and give the bags away.”

“I brought 27 clothes and I left with 9, which is nice.” Emma Lynch, a participator in this event said, “I thought it might be nice to swap clothes rather than to go buy new clothes, because I do get secondhand clothing fetish.”
